It’s Midsummer’s Eve and the kitchen of a rich aristocrat’s manor house is alive with talk of dreams and dancing. Jean, the valet, and Kristin, the cook, exchange rumours about the broken engagement of the count's daughter: the fiercely independent Miss Julie. When she enters, flirtation with Jean leads her into an act that could have devastating consequences for all three characters.
'Miss Julie' is one of the greatest works of nineteenth-century naturalism, exploring the role of women and the complexities of social mobility in a fast-changing world.
